Being in the right room can change the way you think, lead, and grow. In this Front-Row Friday message, Marilyn Sherman shares why masterminding with people who have different perspectives but similar intentions can help you get out of the balcony and into growth.
Have you ever caught yourself saying, “I have to go to work”?
I have to go to this meeting.
I have to make this call.
I have to finish this project.
I have to deal with that client.
I have to show up today.
Have you ever had a goal that took a lot longer to accomplish than you expected?
Maybe you started strong. You had the vision. You had the excitement. You had every intention of finishing it. And then life happened.
A Mid-Year Reset: What Do You Need to Let Go Of? Can you believe it’s June next week? Soon the year will be half over, then we’ll blink and it’s another year.
It feels like we were just setting New Year’s resolutions, choosing our word of the year, and making big plans. And now here we are, heading into a new month, looking at summer, and realizing this year is moving fast.
You do not have to literally sit in the front-row. You can choose anywhere you want to sit. When I talk about living your life in the front-row, I am not just talking about a physical chair, although I certainly choose to sit there whenever I can. I am talking about a philosophy. I am talking about a choice. I am talking about the way you show up for your life.
What Makes a Good Day?
“Have a good day.” We hear that phrase all the time. Someone says it as we leave a store, hang up the phone, walk out of a meeting, or say goodbye to a friend. It is such a common phrase that sometimes we do not even think about it.
Have you ever had a dream delayed, denied, or dismissed because of an obstacle that felt completely out of your control? Maybe it was a person, a policy, a perception, or even your own doubt creeping in. Whatever it was, it made you pause. It made you question. And if you are not careful, it can make you stop.
Have you ever found yourself in a comfort zone where you say, “This is the way I’ve always been. This is the way I’ll always be.”?
When I think about that through my front-row analogy, it is like sitting in a general admission seat. It’s not bad like the balcony, but it’s also not the best seat in the house. General admission is your comfort zone.
How influential are you, really? Not based on your title or your experience but based on what actually happens after you speak. Do people take action? Do they lean in, or do they check out? Do they feel something, or just hear words?
What are you waiting for? You’ve heard it before. Done is better than perfect. But hearing it and living it are two very different things. So today, I want to challenge you to stop thinking about what you want to do and actually do it. Because your life does not change in the planning. It changes in the doing.
