This week’s message comes straight from a place most of us never see—and certainly never associate with optimism: the Las Vegas coroner’s office. Our Leadership Las Vegas class had the opportunity to tour the facility, and we were guided by one of the most upbeat, energetic, joy-filled people I’ve met in a long time: Candace, who works there every single day.
She shared that the coroner’s office processes roughly 9.000 cases a year, averaging 10–12 cases a day, with even higher numbers in the summer months. She spends her entire work life surrounded by loss—and yet her spirit radiates positivity.
So, of course, I had to ask her: “How are you so incredibly optimistic when you’re literally around death all day?”
Her answer was simple. And brilliant. “Perspective. If someone cuts me off in traffic, I just think… hey, it’s not death.”
That stopped me in my tracks.
Candace’s mindset is a powerful reminder that perspective shapes everything—our energy, our attitude, and the way we show up in our front-row life. It’s easy to get stuck in negativity, frustration, or overwhelm. But what if one small shift could realign your entire outlook?
When you find yourself spiraling, frustrated, or stuck, pause and try this:
- Ask yourself what’s happening… and what story you’re telling about it.
- Refocus on the parts of your life you enjoy—your work, your relationships, your home, your daily routines.
- Name what you’re grateful for—even the smallest wins or comforts.
Recently, I started a simple practice that has completely altered the tone of my mornings:
Before I even get out of bed, I begin my gratitude journal. I do this before looking at my phone, my texts, email or even social media. I think back to the previous day—What did I love? What mattered? What was good? —and I write it down. That small ritual sparks my day with positive energy, clarity, and intention.
Your Front-Row Challenge This Week Be more like Candace. Let perspective reshape how you interpret the bumps, the interruptions, the inconveniences, and the challenges. Lead your day with optimism. Fuel your mindset with gratitude. Reclaim your front-row seat by choosing a lens that empowers you.
Because when you shift your perspective, you shift your experience—and suddenly, a front-row day becomes possible.
Enjoy your day!

Marilyn
